Ampersand was invited by Brown University’s Center for Contemporary South Asia to create a poster series for upcoming lectures. These needed to be recognizably South Asian, yet versatile enough to apply to diverse lecture topics and scholarship.
Our series of posters, featuring cut paper graphics, are inspired by longstanding traditions of handicraft throughout South Asia. With elements of flora and fauna, architecture, topography, and religions that are recognizable to the region, the posters juxtapose modern visuals with historic themes. By using a combination of historical and contemporary elements we hoped to capture the relevance and impact of the South Asian region.
